3 More Sounds Delivers Masterfully On Their New Release Live At The Gardenia Club!”Gene Harris was a wonderful pianist who could play all styles” Henry Franklin |
![]() Los Angeles, August 24th, 2020- 3 More Sounds, a co-op group with former Gene Harris and the 3 Sounds bassist Henry “The Skipper” Franklin and drummer Carl Burnett and with pianist Robert Turner have released their second CD, Live At Gardenia Club in Los Angeles! It was in 2017 with the goal to “make people happy and to have them tap their foot like Gene did, and to preserve Gene’s style of playing. 3 More Sounds was born” The Skipper reflects! The Skipper continues “with my 3 years with Gene and Carl’s 10 years we remember how great it was playing with Gene Harris! There was plenty energy and fun every night, like going to a party every night! Pianist Robert Turner has the monumental task of leading the way in the spirit of Gene Harris, a major influence and idol, who’s “sound was very soulful and bluesy. He was a wonderful pianist who could play all styles”Henry Franklin recalls! A native of Los Angeles Robert Turner fits the bill superbly and brings his own sound and soul to the trio. Extremely imaginative, improvisational and sparkling fun! The fun gets started right away with a swinging the soul version of On A Clear Day where Henry Franklin and Carl Burnette establish a fierce resonating rhythm firmly supporting Robert Turner’s majesty! That segues to Ahmad Jamal’s Night Most Blues and Henry Franklin doesn’t disappoint with the warm round bluesy notes in front of and throughout his big bottom solo and Robert Turner continues to sparkle and dazzle as master Carl Burnett pounds and prances! On Sombrero Sam The Skipper leads in perfectly with his rich looping bass that opens the door for special guest Louis Van Taylor on flute, composer Charles LLoyd just might go ahh! The feel good song of the set has to be Eleanor Rigby as each member has great space to step out and step up and roar all the way home! The spirit of of Erroll Garner is evoked on the great standard Misty! However you’ll soon be reminded it’s Robert Turner with more piano wizardry. Amazing! Weather it the subtle and tender piano and rhythm of When I Fall In Love, the bluesy, rocking and hard hitting Uptown So with Carl Burnette launching missiles there is plenty of great soul stirring music for everyone’s palate! Their renditions of Green Dolphin Street, rich, and Milestones, thrilling, with the thunderous Carl Burnett solo, leaves you wanting more sounds from 3 More Sounds!
